Day 4: The ‘Alison’ Bag (words by Maria Mizzi)
Maria Mizzi meets Alison Mifsud to chat about a once in a lifetime honour.
11 vibrantly coloured bags for 11 vibrantly beautiful muses, and Alison Mifsud is but one of them. She’s spirited and spunky but with a classic, poised touch to her. “I’m not the most glamorous of girls, my style is pretty simple and classic”, she admits, “I loved being a part of their shows […] it was like playing dress up.”
She recounts her history with Charles&Ron with a nostalgic excitement and makes it sound like a fairytale; young girl meets designers, designers love girl and the rest is history. Thinking back fondly to her early days of rushing about backstage at fashion shows, she muses delightfully and has nothing but praise for the duo.
“I was introduced to Charles and Ron by a close friend who modelled for [them] and was asked to take part in one of their upcoming shows. From then on, I can happily say that we became close friends and their shows were an event we all looked forward to. It was always a night full of laughter and excitement. We were part of something very special and backstage was more like a family gathering, such fun memories! Plus they made me look and feel like a million dollars, what more could a girl ask for?”
And what’s more, she LOVES the bag they named after her. She described it perfectly as “quite a classic shape but with a colourful character, maybe a little like me”.
Although extremely flattered, she did ask them to re-think their choice at first. “The day they told me, I suggested they’d think about it properly and gave them two days to decide if they’d like to rename it”, however, now, she would not have it any other way. “Thank God they didn’t, and now the bag is all mine.”
Special thanks to Alison Mifsud for being part of this project, Maria Mizzi for the lovely article, Carlton Agius for the photography, and the wonderful staff at the Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa in Attard for providing us with the premises and refreshments.
